I’ve decided that I’m only going to recap the judges’ comments that are insightful and/or entertaining. That pretty much means Randy and Kara have ceased to exist. The theme this week: popular downloads. You’d think a theme that broad would mean everyone gives amazing performances because they get to choose what they really want to sing, right? Oh, how wrong we all were.
Anoop opens the show with Usher’s “Caught Up.” He’s got an undeniably great voice but the energy in this performance is low and his attempts at tough faces are making me laugh. Randy and Paula are on the fence but Kara and Simon didn’t like it.
Megan sings “Turn The Lights Down Low” by Lauryn Hill. I like Megan in spite of her weirdness, or because of it, but this blows. She’s flat and this song seems like it goes on forever. I have to admit that the girl has no sense of phrasing, interpretation, or musicality. Megan gets deservedly panned by all the judges.
Danny’s doing “What Hurts The Most” by Rascal Flatts. It’s okay. He’s selling the emotion and his voice sounds good. I still don’t like him, even more after he whined to Ryan about not getting the song he wanted last week. Welcome to AI, Danny. You’re not a special snowflake. All the judges liked his performance. Simon even says it’s his best so far.
